Tattoo-friendly onsen ryokan in Okayama

Many ryokan in Okayama turn away tattoos in the shared baths, but private (kashikiri) baths and in-room open-air baths are used only by your group. Stays that allow tattoos in the shared baths come first, then those that allow covered tattoos, then those with a private or in-room bath, each with its source.

What the tattoo labels mean
Tattoos allowed
The property states that guests with tattoos may use the shared baths.
Tattoos OK if covered
Guests may use the shared baths when the tattoo is covered, typically with a sticker or patch. Size limits often apply.
Private/in-room baths OK (stated)
The property does not allow tattoos in the shared baths, but states that you can use its private or in-room baths.
Private/in-room baths OK
We confirmed from a source that the property has a private (kashikiri) bath or rooms with an open-air bath. Only your group uses them, so tattoos are not an issue. Just to be safe, check with the property when you book.

How we know
  • Private bath and tattoo information comes from each property's official website or other published information. Every item links to its source and shows the date we last checked it. Items we could not source are left out.
  • Spring type, pH and how the water is used come from the onsen analysis report that Japanese law requires each facility to post, and from the facility's water-usage notice. They are shown only for stays whose report we have on file.
  • Details can change after we check them. Please confirm with the property before you book, especially tattoo rules and private bath fees.
  • Booking buttons are affiliate links. They do not affect which stays are listed.
