Tawarayama's Silky White-Monkey Spring

Tawarayama Onsen is said to have been found in 916, when a hunter tracking a wounded white monkey saw it healing itself in the hot water. Most inns here still have no baths of their own, so guests walk to the public bathhouses in the old toji tradition. Kawanoyu-sen carries the name of the former Kawa-no-Yu bathhouse and is marked by strong alkalinity at pH 9.9 and a faint whiff of hydrogen sulfide.

Why onsen are considered good for Insomnia

The benefits of an onsen vary by spring type. Certain spring types are traditionally considered good for Insomnia, and the corresponding indications are listed in the legally required onsen analysis sheets. my Onsen Techo ranks the onsen best suited to your symptom and area based on analysis-sheet data, which is mandated for display under Article 18 of Japan's Hot Spring Act. Each onsen page shows mineral visualisations, bathing tips and booking options.
