Kashio no Yu No. 1
Analysis UnverifiedThe Kashio no Yu No. 1 source draws seawater-strength brine from the heart of the Southern Alps, far from any coast, and the place name Kashio, "deer salt," is said to recall deer that gathered to lick the salty water. For generations this brine has been boiled down to make mountain salt. Its dense salts and gentle sulfur aroma wrap the body, letting warmth linger long after the bath. It soothes travelers who wish to steep quietly in a rare salt spring deep in a mountain village.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Undissociated boric acid with antibacterial action that keeps the skin surface clean.
Salinity comparable to seawater. The salt film traps heat for outstanding warmth ("hot bath spring").
Extremely rare in Japan. Calcium-like astringent action that tightens the skin.
Salt forms a thin film on the skin, retaining heat after bathing. Helps with poor circulation.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
As a 12.1°C cold mineral spring, the water is heated for bathing. This hypertonic strong salt spring holds 25.03 g/kg of minerals, so keep soaks to about ten minutes with rest and water between them, and rinse off afterward if your skin is sensitive.
With 14,840 mg/kg of chloride, this strong salt spring coats the skin in a saline film that holds in heat, offering restorative warmth long after bathing. Its 1.8 mg/kg of hydrosulfide ion adds a sulfur character that may also help relieve pain on cold, stiff days.
Avoid long soaks in this hypertonic strong salt spring, and refrain from bathing during acute illness or with serious heart or lung conditions. Its sulfur may tarnish jewelry.
