Effective spring types for skin infections
Pyoderma carries an official bathing indication for both acidic and sulfur springs. Both have strong antimicrobial properties that suppress pus-forming bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus.
low pH (strong acidity) disrupts the bacterial growth environment and suppresses pathogens
hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) directly eliminates pus-forming bacteria
Onsen minerals involved in skin infections
The core of sulfur springs; its strong antimicrobial action suppresses pathogens.
Abundant in acidic springs, adding astringent action. The low-pH environment itself also inhibits bacterial growth.
How acidic and sulfur springs help skin infections
Pyoderma includes folliculitis, furuncles, and impetigo. Acidic springs (low pH) inhibit bacterial growth through acidity; sulfur springs supply H₂S which directly eliminates bacteria. These springs have historically been called "skin disease springs" in Japan for this reason.
