Overview
Niseko Onsen-go is a group of hot spring areas spread across the base of Mt. Yotei, one of Hokkaido's most famous peaks. It's not a single onsen town but a collection of several hot springs dotted around the Niseko Annupuri area. While some have long histories as therapeutic bathhouses, many facilities were developed as the area grew into an international ski resort.
Its greatest appeal lies in its diversity. Many hotels and day-use onsen facilities have their own unique spring sources, meaning the water quality, color, and feel can vary from place to place. Enjoying 'yu-meguri' (onsen hopping) to experience these unique springs, combined with skiing or other outdoor activities, is a signature Niseko experience.
Representative Spring Qualities & Indications
While various spring qualities are found in Niseko, the most representative are Chloride springs and Bicarbonate springs. Chloride springs, known as 'netsu-no-yu' (waters of warmth), coat the skin with salt and are excellent for heat retention. Bicarbonate springs are called 'bihada-no-yu' (waters for beautiful skin) for their expected ability to exfoliate and smoothen the skin. Sulfur springs are also found in the area.

Water Characteristics & Best Season
The area boasts an abundant flow of hot spring water, and many facilities offer 'gensen kakenagashi' style baths, where the water flows directly from the source into the tubs without being circulated. In winter, the ultimate luxury is to soak in an onsen and warm your body to the core after a day of enjoying the world-famous powder snow.
Meanwhile, summer offers the chance to enjoy open-air baths (rotenburo) in the fresh air, surrounded by lush nature. It's also a perfect way to relax after activities like rafting or hiking, making Niseko a year-round onsen resort destination.
