Tatsunoyu Onsen
Analysis UnverifiedLocal lore says this spring was found after a dream of the dragon god of a nearby shrine declaring that hot water lay beneath Higashiasahikawa. Clear at the wellhead, its abundant iron oxidizes in air, turning the bath an ochre hue with a distinctly squeaky, metallic feel on the skin.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
An iron-rich spring whose water turns yellow-brown to red-brown when exposed to air. Strong heat retention.
A trace component with gentle antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.
The aroma typical of sulfur springs, with circulatory and antibacterial effects.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
With a 9.4°C source, the bath water is heated before use. Iron-rich water can stain white towels, so bring a dark one, and a quick rinse afterward keeps the metallic scent from lingering on your skin.
With 23.2 mg/kg of ferrous iron and 70.6 mg/kg of free carbon dioxide, this neutral iron spring has long been valued in chilly Asahikawa for rejuvenation after a hard day, and is traditionally associated with helping to relieve pain and stiffness brought on by the cold.
Iron may discolor white towels and swimwear. Avoid bathing when unwell or after drinking alcohol, keep soaks short, and stay hydrated.
