Kintaro Onsen
Analysis UnverifiedKintaro Onsen gushes in Tenjinno, Uozu, close to Kurobe-Unazukionsen Station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, where the edge of an alluvial fan looks up to the Tateyama range. The Kintaro Onsen source unites the qualities of a chloride spring and a sulfur spring: a dense, hypertonic water holding 4790.0 mg/kg of sodium and 1401.0 mg/kg of calcium, with thiosulfate and free hydrogen sulfide lending a sulfur scent. White and grey mineral flakes drift through the water, suiting bathers who want a hot, deeply warming soak and lovers of both salt and sulfur.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Salinity comparable to seawater. The salt film traps heat for outstanding warmth ("hot bath spring").
A trace component with gentle antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.
The source of the distinctive sulfur smell. Dilates blood vessels via skin and inhalation to strongly boost circulation.
Salt forms a thin film on the skin, retaining heat after bathing. Helps with poor circulation.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
The source reaches 73.5°C where it is used, so check each bath's temperature, pour water over yourself first and take short repeated soaks. This dense hypertonic chloride water keeps you warm long afterward; drink water often.
With 9903.0 mg/kg of chloride, this hypertonic water leaves a salty film on the skin that may offer restorative warmth on chilly days, and its sulfur content of 6.1 mg/kg free hydrogen sulfide is traditionally associated with immune system stimulation.
Avoid bathing during acute illness or with serious heart conditions. The water is hot and dense, so keep soaks short; people with sensitive skin or mucous membranes, or dry skin in older age, should take care. Do not bathe after alcohol or right after meals.
