Shinshinotsu Onsen No.3 Well
Analysis UnverifiedHot springs in Shinshinotsu began with the No.1 well drilled in 1990, whose water had to be heated. In 2015 the No.3 well, reaching 1,600 m, was completed, delivering water above 50°C ready to use. Rising beneath the Ishikari Plain beside oxbow Lake Shinotsu, it is a yellowish-brown, intensely salty water with a faint medicinal note from iodine and bromine. Its dense salts wrap the skin and keep you warm long after bathing, a fine companion for harsh winters.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Undissociated boric acid with antibacterial action that keeps the skin surface clean.
Above 10 mg classifies the spring as an "iodine spring" — a rare type that delivers antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action through the skin.
Salinity comparable to seawater. The salt film traps heat for outstanding warmth ("hot bath spring").
Absorbed through the skin to gently calm nervous tension, leaving deep relaxation after the bath.
Salt forms a thin film on the skin, retaining heat after bathing. Helps with poor circulation.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
At 28.11 g/kg this strong-salt water is potent, so keep soaks to about 10 minutes with breaks. Salt tends to stay on the skin; rinse lightly if sensitive and drink water afterward.
With 17,070 mg/kg of chloride, this hypertonic water forms a fine salt film that holds in heat for restorative warmth. Also containing 22.9 mg/kg of iodide, it suits chilly days and stiff shoulders, traditionally linked to pain relief.
This concentrated strong-salt water can cause bathing fatigue if you soak too long. Keep baths short with heart or blood pressure concerns, and consult a doctor if you have thyroid conditions, as it contains iodine.
