Azumamae Onsen (Alkaline Spring No. 1 Well)
Analysis UnverifiedA local trucking company drilled a well to wash its trucks and struck hot water instead, opening a day-bathing facility in 1999. The No. 1 well flows naturally at 420 L/min. Faintly yellow at the source, it looks like oolong tea in the tub, is almost tasteless with a hint of iron and oily scent, and its mildly alkaline, bicarbonate-based water feels smooth and slippery, recalling the peat-derived moor springs of southern Hokkaido.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
A natural moisturizer also used in skincare lotions. Forms a thin veil on the skin to reduce moisture loss after bathing.
A trace component with gentle antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
At 43.1°C the water runs slightly hot, so start in the cooler tubs; the pH 8.0 alkalinity gives a slippery feel but can strip skin oils, so moisturize after bathing.
With 396.7 mg/kg bicarbonate at pH 8.0, the gently alkaline water may help leave skin silky, and as a mild simple spring it invites deep relaxation after a long day.
Though a gentle simple spring, the hotter tubs around 43°C can cause lightheadedness on long soaks; drink water and moisturize afterward.
