Date Onsen Well No. 2
Analysis UnverifiedThe spring began in 1975, when a local farmer bored for hot water to warm his greenhouses and his own bath. Redrilled in 1999 to about 1,520 m, Well No. 2 now yields 73.6°C water: nearly colorless and clear, yet unmistakably salty, a dense sodium- and calcium-bearing chloride spring with a plain, sturdy character.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Undissociated boric acid with antibacterial action that keeps the skin surface clean.
Salinity comparable to seawater. The salt film traps heat for outstanding warmth ("hot bath spring").
Salt forms a thin film on the skin, retaining heat after bathing. Helps with poor circulation.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
The source is 73.6°C and pools differ in temperature, so start in a milder bath before moving to a hotter one. Rinse only lightly afterward; the salty film helps the warmth last.
With 6,156 mg/kg of chloride, the salt is thought to coat the skin and slow heat loss, giving a restorative warmth that lingers long after bathing and eases you into deep relaxation on cold days.
The source is very hot and some pools run hot, so avoid long soaks. Being hypertonic and salty, it may sting cuts or sensitive skin.
