Futamata Onsen (Mixed Wells No. 1A, B, 2-7)
Analysis UnverifiedOpened in 1898 and later famed for its radium content, Futamata's water has deposited calcium carbonate for ages, building a 400-meter limestone dome. Mixed wells turn amber and cloudy in the air, with waxy mineral flakes floating on top; the rich salts have long warmed hot-spring cure guests deep in the valley.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Undissociated boric acid with antibacterial action that keeps the skin surface clean.
A "beauty spring" that gently emulsifies dead skin cells, leaving skin smooth after bathing.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
The 43.2°C water flows in as is, so inlet-side tubs run hotter and outlet-side ones cooler. At over 9 g/kg this dense chloride water can tire you quickly; soak briefly in a cooler tub, rest between dips, and mind your footing in the deep standing bath.
With 3980 mg/kg chloride, the salts form a light film on the skin that holds heat after bathing, offering restorative warmth in the cold mountains, while 619 mg/kg calcium makes a mellow soak that may help relieve pain in stiff bodies.
This concentrated chloride water can cause fatigue on long soaks. A standing bath is 120 cm deep, so watch your footing. Rinse with fresh water afterward to avoid salt itch, and do not drink the water.
