Hanayama Onsen
Analysis UnverifiedSaid to date back to the Heian period and linked to the monk Gyoki, this sacred spring once welcomed pilgrims bound for Kumano. Its natural flow ceased for centuries until a 1965 boring struck water at 501 m, and today its calcium- and magnesium-rich water builds thick mineral crusts around every bath.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Undissociated boric acid with antibacterial action that keeps the skin surface clean.
A "beauty spring" that gently emulsifies dead skin cells, leaving skin smooth after bathing.
Easily absorbed through the skin, helping to relax muscle stiffness during bathing — a transdermal nutrient unique to hot springs.
Bubbles cling to the skin and dilate blood vessels — the "heart spring." Warms the body even at lukewarm temperatures.
Salinity comparable to seawater. The salt film traps heat for outstanding warmth ("hot bath spring").
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
At 25.2°C the source is cool, so alternate it with heated water for contrast bathing. Bubbles cling best when the water is calm. Being strongly hypertonic, keep sessions moderate and avoid splashing it into your eyes.
With 2,631 mg/kg of free carbon dioxide, the water is thought to widen blood vessels and boost circulation, so even the cool source leaves a lingering inner warmth that supports rejuvenation, while 8,810 mg/kg of chloride helps seal in heat for deep relaxation afterward.
Strongly hypertonic and irritating to the eyes. Drinking more than 250 mL a day may cause diarrhea, according to the posted drinking guidance.
