Izutsuya Onsen No. 2
Analysis UnverifiedNekonaki Onsen rises beside the Kitasu River in Ishikawa, central Fukushima. Legend says that when the Heian-era poet Izumi Shikibu left for the capital, her cat cried for her until it fell ill, then recovered by bathing here, giving the spring its name, "crying cat." The Ishikawa area is dotted with radioactive springs, and Izutsuya Onsen No. 2, pumped from the ground at 18.4°C, is a cold mineral spring. Its total mineral content is a light 128.2 mg/kg, yet carbonate ions reach 36.1 mg, giving it a strongly alkaline pH of 10.1.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
A rare radioactive spring where trace radiation absorbed via inhalation and skin is expected to stimulate cells (the "hormesis effect").
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
At pH 10.1 the water softens the skin's surface, so soak slowly without over-scrubbing and moisturize afterward. Radon from radioactive springs is also taken in by breathing, so breathe calmly near the water's surface.
With 112.9 Bq/kg of radon, this radioactive spring has long been traditionally associated with helping relieve pain and supporting immune system stimulation, while its pH 10.1 alkalinity feels smooth on the skin, true to the legend of the cat that recovered here.
The water is strongly alkaline, so those with sensitive skin should avoid long soaks and rinse with fresh water and moisturize afterward. Skip bathing if you feel unwell or bath-fatigued.
