Green Onsen Source
Analysis UnverifiedStruck in 1979 by a local shopkeeper who drilled 1,020 meters beneath the port town of Shari, at the base of the Shiretoko Peninsula, this source rises through the peat beds under the Shari Plain. That journey gives it plant-derived humic matter and a pale amber tint, placing it among Hokkaido's celebrated moor springs. Bicarbonate makes the alkaline water feel soft, while a faint saltiness hints at the nearby Sea of Okhotsk. It has long served locals and working travelers as an unpretentious everyday bath.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
A trace component with gentle antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.
A natural moisturizer also used in skincare lotions. Forms a thin veil on the skin to reduce moisture loss after bathing.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
At 45.1°C the source runs fairly hot, so pour water over yourself first and keep soaks short. The weakly alkaline water smooths the skin but also lifts oils, so moisturize after bathing.
With 525 mg/kg of bicarbonate, this alkaline water gently softens the skin's surface and is cherished for Silky skin. Its 104 mg/kg of chloride forms a light film that may support Restorative warmth on cold northern evenings.
The source is fairly hot at about 45°C; avoid long soaks and bathe briefly if you have heart or blood-pressure concerns.
