Shari Onsen
Analysis UnverifiedThe Shari Onsen source gushed from a 1,000 m borehole in 1976 beside the Shari River near the town center of Shari, the gateway to Shiretoko. Drilling began after a slope was spotted where snow melted first each spring, and the water has since been piped to local inns, a community rest house and nearby homes. Clear and pale brown like oolong tea, this moor water carries plant-derived humus, and its slippery touch leaves skin soft and smooth, gently easing the fatigue of travel.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
A "beauty spring" that gently emulsifies dead skin cells, leaving skin smooth after bathing.
A trace component with gentle antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.
A natural moisturizer also used in skincare lotions. Forms a thin veil on the skin to reduce moisture loss after bathing.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
This weakly alkaline water feels slippery on the skin. Pour water over yourself first, soak slowly for about ten minutes in a cooler tub, and moisturize after bathing.
With 1,063 mg/kg of bicarbonate and 162.1 mg/kg of metasilicic acid softening the skin, this gentle pH 7.9 water is traditionally associated with silky skin and deep relaxation, suiting days when skin feels rough or you want to unwind after travel.
The source is fairly hot, so check the bath temperature before entering, and avoid lightheadedness from long soaks and dry skin afterward.
