Kanaguya Hotel No.1 Boring Source
Analysis UnverifiedShibu Onsen, said to have been discovered by the monk Gyoki in the Nara period, is home to the No.1 Boring source, which gushes up on its own from a deep borehole at 97.6°C, close to boiling. Nearly clear and carrying a faint whiff of sulfur, the water wraps the body in salty, sulfate-rich warmth yet leaves a light, refreshed feeling afterwards. It suits travelers pausing between cobbled bathhouse visits and anyone seeking deep warmth on a cold mountain night.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Undissociated boric acid with antibacterial action that keeps the skin surface clean.
A natural moisturizer also used in skincare lotions. Forms a thin veil on the skin to reduce moisture loss after bathing.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
The source emerges at 97.6°C, so baths can run very hot. Pour water over yourself, check the temperature, and soak in short spells. Remove silver jewelry, as the sulfur content can tarnish it.
With 536 mg/kg of chloride forming a light film on the skin, this water may support Restorative warmth long after bathing. Its pH 8.2 weakly alkaline character and sulfur content are traditionally associated with Silky skin, ideal after a chilly day in the mountains.
The source is extremely hot; beware of scalding and dizziness, keep soaks short if you have heart or blood-pressure concerns, and note sulfur may tarnish metals.
