Sukayu Onsen (Hie no Yu, Shika no Yu and Kasuga Mixed Spring)
Analysis UnverifiedAt the spa retreat on the Hakkoda Mountains' northwest flank, the Hie no Yu (large and small), Shika no Yu and Kasuga springs are combined and tempered with fresh water to a comfortable bathing temperature. As its name suggests it is cooler than the other springs, and though strongly acidic it feels soft; poured over the body or soaked in between hotter baths, it calms a flushed body. With its sulfur scent and tartness, it invites you to savor the slow pace of the retreat.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Strong astringent action that tightens skin. A key component of acidic springs, suited to oily or acne-prone skin.
A natural moisturizer also used in skincare lotions. Forms a thin veil on the skin to reduce moisture loss after bathing.
An iron-rich spring whose water turns yellow-brown to red-brown when exposed to air. Strong heat retention.
The aroma typical of sulfur springs, with circulatory and antibacterial effects.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
Being lukewarm, it suits cooling down after hotter baths or pouring over yourself before and after bathing; keep the acidic water out of your eyes.
A strongly acidic sulfur spring with 2.4 mg/kg of free hydrogen sulfide, traditionally associated with immune system stimulation, while its lukewarm temperature eases the body into deep relaxation.
Because of the strong acidity, those with sensitive skin should rinse with fresh water afterward.
