Zao Nigorikawa no Yu
Analysis UnverifiedTogatta Onsen is said to date back to the early Edo period, growing along the Matsukawa River that flows from the Zao range. This high-temperature well holds 296.0 mg of sodium, with bicarbonate (320.3 mg), sulfate (224.5 mg) and chloride (196.9 mg) in nearly equal shares. With 117.2 mg of metasilicic acid it feels silky on the skin. Wrapped in brown mineral flakes, it is like a quiet, wise elder of the forest.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
A trace component with gentle antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.
A natural moisturizer also used in skincare lotions. Forms a thin veil on the skin to reduce moisture loss after bathing.
Absorbed through the skin to gently promote peripheral circulation.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
At 72.3°C the source is very hot, so water is added in the tubs. Test the temperature by hand, especially near the inflow. At neutral pH 7.0 it is gentle; rinse lightly afterward to keep the warming, moisturizing feel.
Chloride (196.9 mg) helps hold heat in the skin while sulfate (224.5 mg) supports circulation, giving restorative warmth after bathing. Together with silky bicarbonate (320.3 mg), it invites deep relaxation.
The source is very hot, so beware of scalding near the inflow. Avoid long soaks to prevent dizziness or dehydration, and keep baths short if you have acute illness or heart or blood pressure concerns. Drinking is not permitted.
