Dake Onsen (Ryokan Association Collection Tanks No. 4-5 and 6-8)
Analysis UnverifiedDake Onsen's association source feeds a spa village said to have opened in 1674. Its self-flowing water is piped several kilometers down from the slopes of Mt. Iwaki, and the local association flushes sulfur deposits from the pipes every month. Listed in Edo-period hot spring rankings, its sharply sour, sulfurous water suits travelers seeking an old-fashioned toji retreat.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Strong astringent action that tightens skin. A key component of acidic springs, suited to oily or acne-prone skin.
A natural moisturizer also used in skincare lotions. Forms a thin veil on the skin to reduce moisture loss after bathing.
A trace component with gentle antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.
Absorbed through the skin to gently promote peripheral circulation.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
At pH 2.03 the water is strongly acidic, so keep it out of your eyes and take several short soaks. The source runs at 48.2°C, so test the temperature near the spout, and rinse with fresh water afterward to spare sensitive skin.
With a pH of 2.03, this acidic water has long been used in toji cures for skin troubles, a classic of balneotherapy. Holding 213.1 mg/kg of metasilicic acid, it may support silky skin after bathing.
As a strongly acidic spring, it may irritate sensitive or dry skin. It contains hydrogen sulfide, so mind ventilation, rinse your eyes with fresh water at once if splashed, and remove metal jewelry.
