Shionoha Onsen Yamabatoyu Spring
Analysis UnverifiedThis spring in a deep valley near the source of the Yoshino River is said to have flowed since ancient times. After the old spring was submerged by a dam reservoir, it was found again by boring into the valley, and it still rises by its own pressure. It combines 2,127 mg/kg of bicarbonate with 920 mg/kg of chloride, and 142 mg/kg of free carbon dioxide gives it a fizzy, slightly sweet and faintly metallic taste. Thick mineral deposits crust the tub edges. At just over 39°C, it suits those who like to lose track of time in a lukewarm bath overlooking the gorge.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
A "beauty spring" that gently emulsifies dead skin cells, leaving skin smooth after bathing.
A natural moisturizer also used in skincare lotions. Forms a thin veil on the skin to reduce moisture loss after bathing.
A trace component with gentle antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
At 39.6°C this lukewarm water suits long, unhurried soaks, but still drink water regularly during extended bathing. The neutral bicarbonate water can leave skin feeling clean and dry, so moisturize afterward.
With 920 mg/kg of chloride, a thin salt film is said to provide restorative warmth long after bathing, while 2,127 mg/kg of bicarbonate may gently lift old skin cells, traditionally associated with silky skin.
Even lukewarm water can cause bathing fatigue if you soak too long, so listen to your body. Those in acute illness or with serious heart or lung conditions should refrain or consult a doctor; avoid bathing after drinking or eating.
