Yakushinoyu No. 3 Well
Analysis UnverifiedMurasugi Onsen is said to have been found in 1335, when Araki Masataka, a retainer of the Ashikaga clan fleeing war, dreamed of the Healing Buddha seven nights in a row, giving the spa some 700 years of history. Yakushinoyu No. 3 Well carries that name, gushing from a drilled well in Murasugi and supplying the inns of the spa town. Known since the Taisho era for its rich radon, the clear, mild water seems ordinary, yet soaking and breathing its steam lets a gentle warmth spread from within, suiting anyone seeking an unhurried toji stay among quiet cedar groves.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
A rare radioactive spring where trace radiation absorbed via inhalation and skin is expected to stimulate cells (the "hormesis effect").
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
The source is only 25.2°C, so baths are served warmed. Radon is best taken in with the steam, so sink to your shoulders, breathe deeply, and linger in lukewarm water for a longer soak.
Holding 136.6×10⁻¹⁰ Ci/kg of radon, this radioactive spring is traditionally associated with helping relieve pain from gout and stiff joints, and breathing its steam may support immune system stimulation on days of built-up fatigue.
If unwell or living with a chronic condition, keep soaks short, and cut back on bathing if signs of yuatari (bath fatigue) appear.
