Kanaguya Besso Source
Analysis UnverifiedIn Shibu Onsen, where legend credits the monk Gyoki with opening the springs, the Besso source is drawn from bedrock only about three meters below ground beside the bathhouse. Unlike the many clear waters of Shibu, it carries iron that clouds it a faint yellow, with a subtle metallic and salty taste. Its neutral, gentle touch lets sulfate and chloride warmth linger, suiting travelers who want to savor a retro bathhouse mood and quietly unwind.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
A trace component with gentle antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.
A natural moisturizer also used in skincare lotions. Forms a thin veil on the skin to reduce moisture loss after bathing.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
At 50.0°C the source makes for a hot bath, so pour water over yourself first and soak briefly. The neutral water is gentle on skin, but its iron may stain white towels.
With 363 mg/kg of sulfate and 315 mg/kg of chloride, this water warms the body deeply and may support Restorative warmth. Sulfate springs are traditionally associated with helping Relieve pain, fitting days of stiff shoulders or a chilled lower back.
The 50°C source is hot; avoid long soaks and dizziness, bathe briefly if you have heart or blood-pressure concerns, and note iron may stain fabrics.
