Shikabe Onsen Shika no Yu
Analysis UnverifiedThe Shika no Yu source of Shikabe Onsen is said to have been discovered in the Kanbun era, when Ito Gengoro, who came from Tsugaru to harvest kelp, spotted a deer healing its wounds in the water. Once welling up naturally on the beach, this source still gushes at 77.5°C from beneath the fishing port. Its soft water, carrying a faint saltiness and a hint of the sea, wraps the skin and warms the body to the core, suiting travelers who wish to unwind slowly by Uchiura Bay.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Undissociated boric acid with antibacterial action that keeps the skin surface clean.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
With a neutral pH of 6.9 the water is gentle on the skin, yet as a chloride spring it heats the body well, so begin with about five minutes and take breaks between soaks. Avoid rinsing too thoroughly afterward to keep the warming saline film.
With 740.0 mg/kg of chloride forming a saline film on the skin, this spring offers restorative warmth long after bathing. Its 642.0 mg/kg of sulfate is traditionally associated with helping relieve pain, suiting days of chill or stiffness and bodies tired from long journeys.
Mind the bath temperature and avoid lightheadedness from long soaks; those with heart or blood-pressure concerns should keep baths short.
