Takinoyu, Ryugu-no-yu and Asahi-no-yu (mixed)
Analysis UnverifiedShima Onsen takes its name from the legend that it could cure "forty thousand ailments," and its hot water rises close to the bed of the Shinyu River. This blend gathers three springs, Takinoyu, Ryugu-no-yu and Asahi-no-yu, which emerge at over 76°C. It pairs the lasting warmth of a chloride spring with the softness of a sulfate spring, clear in color with a faint gypsum scent. Long cherished as a spring for the stomach, with a living tradition of drinking the water, it carries both the purity and the strength of a valley spring.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Undissociated boric acid with antibacterial action that keeps the skin surface clean.
A natural moisturizer also used in skincare lotions. Forms a thin veil on the skin to reduce moisture loss after bathing.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
The source exceeds 76°C, so it is cooled with added water before reaching the tubs. The area near the spout can still be hot, so pour water over yourself first; the neutral water is gentle, so skip a heavy rinse afterward.
With 1002 mg/kg of chloride wrapping the skin, the water offers restorative warmth, while 355 mg/kg of sulfate and 148 mg/kg of calcium are traditionally valued for soothing skin; 175 mg/kg of metasilicic acid adds a silky after-bath feel.
The water warms strongly, so avoid overly long soaks and drink water often. The source contains arsenic, so if you drink it, follow the posted guidance at the drinking fountain and keep to the stated amount.
