Sounkyo Onsen Katsura no Yu 1, 2, 3 Mixed Source
Analysis UnverifiedSounkyo Onsen traces its roots to the Shioya hot spring opened beside the Ishikari River in the early Taisho era. The Katsura no Yu 1-2-3 mixed source wells up naturally at about 79°C from only two meters underground, is stored in a tank and piped along the mountainside to the baths. Softly scented with sulfur and silky on the skin, it leaves bathers feeling light, a fine companion for travelers unwinding beneath the gorge's towering cliffs.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
A trace component with gentle antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.
A natural moisturizer also used in skincare lotions. Forms a thin veil on the skin to reduce moisture loss after bathing.
The aroma typical of sulfur springs, with circulatory and antibacterial effects.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
With the source emerging at 78.8°C, water near the inlet can be very hot. Choose a cooler spot and soak for around ten minutes. Remove silver jewelry, as the sulfur content may tarnish it.
A simple sulfur spring holding 2.5 mg/kg hydrosulfide plus free hydrogen sulfide, it also carries 196.2 mg/kg bicarbonate and 101.4 mg/kg metasilicic acid that may support silky skin. Its sulfur-scented warmth is traditionally associated with immune system stimulation, ideal after a mountain hike.
The source is very hot, so take care near the inlet and avoid overly long soaks. Sulfur may discolor metal accessories.
