Unga no Yado Otaru Furukawa Source
Analysis UnverifiedDrilled beside the Otaru Canal, lined with Meiji-era stone warehouses, this source is pumped up at 330 liters per minute. Though it emerges as a 20.5°C cold mineral spring, its chloride-rich water, once warmed, wraps the skin softly and lets warmth linger long after the bath. It suits travelers who want to steep away the chill after strolling the canal-side streets.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Transdermal absorption gently supports skin hydration and muscle relaxation.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
Chloride springs hold heat well, so soak for about ten minutes at a time with breaks rather than one long session. Rest until you stop sweating afterward and remember to drink water.
With 937.4 mg/kg of chloride, this water is said to leave a thin salt film on the skin that slows heat loss, offering restorative warmth. On cold northern days, or after a long walk, it is traditionally associated with helping relieve pain in tired legs and back.
The water retains heat strongly, so avoid long soaks and stay hydrated. People with general contraindications for hot-spring bathing should refrain.
