Sengakukan Sen
Analysis UnverifiedAt the foot of Mt. Ontake, Yuya Onsen in Hida-Osaka is said to have served bathers for some three centuries, and locals still repeat the saying that carbonated spring water beats stomach medicine. Pumped from underground at around 12°C, the cold mineral water is rich in carbon dioxide and tastes like soda. Its iron content sends fine brown flakes drifting through the bath and gives the water a smooth, slightly slick feel. Carbon dioxide springs are rare in Japan, making this one a true local character.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Bubbles cling to the skin and dilate blood vessels — the "heart spring." Warms the body even at lukewarm temperatures.
A trace component with gentle antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
Soak slowly in the lukewarm bath so the carbon dioxide is retained; the cold source water tends to settle at the bottom, so stir the bath now and then.
At 1,203.8 mg/kg, the free carbon dioxide far exceeds the therapeutic threshold; absorbed through the skin, it is said to widen blood vessels and boost circulation, so even a lukewarm soak supports deep relaxation and may help relieve pain.
Because the water is rich in carbon dioxide, avoid long soaks in poorly ventilated rooms, and follow the posted guidance when drinking the water.
