Uwanari Gensen
Analysis VerifiedThe Uwanari Gensen is a primary source for Arima Onsen's famous "Kinsen" (Golden Spring). Its name, meaning "jealousy spring," comes from a legend that the water would gush violently with envy whenever a beautiful woman passed by. [3, 6, 7] Once an intermittent spring, it is now drilled and its waters are distributed to many establishments in Arima via other sources like the Gosho Sengen. [3, 6, 7] Rich in iron and salt, this spring is known for its characteristic reddish-brown color upon oxidation and its ability to warm the body to its core.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Undissociated boric acid with antibacterial action that keeps the skin surface clean.
Salinity comparable to seawater. The salt film traps heat for outstanding warmth ("hot bath spring").
Salt forms a thin film on the skin, retaining heat after bathing. Helps with poor circulation.
An iron-rich spring whose water turns yellow-brown to red-brown when exposed to air. Strong heat retention.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
This is a very hot and concentrated spring, so avoid long soaks and acclimate your body with "kakeyu" (splashing water on yourself) before entering. The high salt content creates a heat-retaining film on the skin, but those with sensitive skin should rinse off lightly with a shower afterward.
With 21980 mg/kg of chloride ions, this hypertonic spring is as salty as seawater, and its most significant feature is its restorative warmth that prevents post-bath chills. [5] Rich in iron, it supports rejuvenation and recovery from fatigue. This form of balneotherapy is ideal for those with poor circulation or muscle pain, warming the body to its core.
Due to the extremely high temperature and concentration of minerals, individuals with high blood pressure or heart conditions should exercise particular caution. Avoid long soaks and do not drink the water.
