Gokuraku Gensen
Analysis VerifiedGokuraku Gensen is a source for the iconic "Kinsen" (gold spring) of Arima Onsen, one of Japan's three ancient hot springs. It was once called "Negai no Yu" (Spring of Wishes) and its history is tied to Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who had its waters channeled to his private bathhouse. The rich water, which turns a reddish-brown when exposed to air, has been cherished by therapeutic bathers for centuries. Its high salt concentration envelops the skin, providing long-lasting warmth after bathing. Steeping in this historic spring, you can feel the deep warmth that once soothed samurai warlords, offering a true escape from daily fatigue.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Undissociated boric acid with antibacterial action that keeps the skin surface clean.
Salinity comparable to seawater. The salt film traps heat for outstanding warmth ("hot bath spring").
Salt forms a thin film on the skin, retaining heat after bathing. Helps with poor circulation.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
This is a hypertonic spring with a very high temperature of 98.1°C and a high concentration of salt and iron. If offered as a free-flowing source without dilution, start by acclimating your body with a footbath. Avoid long soaks and take breaks. The water may feel intense on the skin.
As a hypertonic spring with about 1.5 times the salt concentration of seawater, it forms a thin veil on the skin, offering excellent "restorative warmth" that prevents post-bath chills. Its abundant iron content supports "rejuvenation," helping to alleviate fatigue. With a neutral pH of 6.94, it is cherished as a form of "balneotherapy" that gently envelops the skin while deeply warming the body from its core.
Due to the very high salt concentration and temperature, individuals with high blood pressure or heart conditions should avoid prolonged bathing. The rich mineral content may require sensitive skin types to rinse with fresh water after bathing.
