Atagoyama Sengen
Analysis VerifiedThe Atagoyama Sengen, gushing forth in Arima Onsen—one of Japan's three ancient hot springs—is a prime example of the "Kinsen" (gold spring), which turns a vivid reddish-brown upon contact with air. Its history is deep, having long supported the therapeutic bathing culture of Arima. The water from this source, rich in salt and iron, offers a powerful warmth that heats the body to its core. Steeping in this bath envelops you in a warmth that feels infused with the earth's blessings, a sensation that lingers long after you emerge.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Undissociated boric acid with antibacterial action that keeps the skin surface clean.
Salinity comparable to seawater. The salt film traps heat for outstanding warmth ("hot bath spring").
Salt forms a thin film on the skin, retaining heat after bathing. Helps with poor circulation.
Absorbed through the skin to gently calm nervous tension, leaving deep relaxation after the bath.
A rare radioactive spring where trace radiation absorbed via inhalation and skin is expected to stimulate cells (the "hormesis effect").
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
As the source is extremely hot at 96.6°C, it is cooled to a suitable temperature at the facility. Due to the very high salt concentration, it's recommended to rinse off lightly with fresh water after bathing, especially for those with sensitive skin. Avoid long soaks and remember to stay hydrated.
As one of Japan's leading chloride springs with 30,600 mg/kg of chloride ions, it creates a salt veil on the skin, offering excellent restorative warmth that prevents post-bath chills. This effect is traditionally associated with relieving poor circulation. Furthermore, the abundant iron content may support rejuvenation as part of a balneotherapy regimen.
Due to its very high salt concentration, individuals with sensitive skin or open cuts may feel a stinging sensation. As a high-temperature, hypertonic spring, it is wise to start with shorter bathing times.
