Kowakidani Onsen Onsenmura No. 59-3 & No. 100 Combined Spring
Analysis VerifiedOnce a desolate area called "Lesser Hell," this land was renamed Kowakidani following a visit by Emperor Meiji, sparking its development as a hot spring resort. This combined source is one of several springs utilized in this historic onsen town. Developed by entrepreneurs in the Meiji era, the area saw the construction of numerous inns and villas. This very source has supplied water to accommodations throughout the Kowakidani area, laying the foundation for Hakone's modern onsen culture.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
A natural moisturizer also used in skincare lotions. Forms a thin veil on the skin to reduce moisture loss after bathing.
A trace component with gentle antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
▸Note
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
This is a simple thermal spring with a gentle, weakly alkaline pH of 8.4. While suitable for longer soaks, it's best to start with 10-15 minute dips to acclimate your body. Rich in metasilicic acid, it leaves the skin feeling moist. For best results, gently pat dry without rinsing off the water.
With a pH of 8.4, this weakly alkaline water gently softens the skin's surface, which is traditionally associated with promoting silky skin. Furthermore, containing a rich 169 mg/kg of metasilicic acid—a key indicator of "skin-beautifying" springs—it may leave your skin feeling naturally moisturized. It's the perfect spring for deep relaxation on days you need to unwind.
Avoid bathing during active phases of illness or if extremely weak. Bathing after consuming alcohol is particularly dangerous and should be strictly avoided. Pay attention to water temperature and bathing time for a safe experience.
