Shijo Kawaramachi Onsen
Analysis VerifiedThe Shijo Kawaramachi Onsen is a precious private source gushing from beneath Kyoto's most bustling district. It is lavishly used in the panoramic grand baths and guest room open-air baths at the "Soraniwa Terrace Kyoto" and "Bettei Kamogawa" hotels, which opened in 2022. Its greatest appeal is the ability to enjoy an authentic hot spring in a prime location for Kyoto sightseeing. This hypertonic chloride spring deeply soothes travel fatigue.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Extremely rare in Japan. Calcium-like astringent action that tightens the skin.
Salinity comparable to seawater. The salt film traps heat for outstanding warmth ("hot bath spring").
Easily absorbed through the skin, helping to relax muscle stiffness during bathing — a transdermal nutrient unique to hot springs.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
As this is a hypertonic spring with highly concentrated ingredients, it's best to start with short dips of 5-10 minutes to prevent overheating. The spring components form a veil on the skin, so avoid rinsing off with fresh water after bathing; simply pat dry with a towel.
With a total of 14.34 g/kg of dissolved solids, this hypertonic spring is nearly as concentrated as seawater. Its main component, chloride ions (8,867 mg/kg), coats the skin, preventing moisture evaporation and creating a lasting warming and moisturizing effect. It is highly recommended for cuts, poor circulation, and dry skin.
Please refrain from bathing during active stages of illness or if you are extremely weak. This hypertonic spring can be strenuous, so elderly guests and those with high blood pressure should avoid prolonged soaking.
