Jozankei Onsen
Analysis VerifiedDiscovered in 1866 by the monk Miizumi Jozan, the Jozankei Onsen sources naturally gush from the rocky bed of the Toyohira River. The water bubbles up abundantly at about 8,600 liters per minute across the town. Established in 1934, Shogetsu Grand Hotel generously draws from five of these sources to provide free-flowing spring water for its baths. Bathing in this clear, slightly salty water allows you to deeply soothe your mind and body while admiring the beautiful seasonal changes of the valley.
The bar length shows how abundant each component is compared to thresholds that make it "distinctive" (therapeutic spring standards, beauty spring criteria, etc.).
Undissociated boric acid with antibacterial action that keeps the skin surface clean.
A natural moisturizer also used in skincare lotions. Forms a thin veil on the skin to reduce moisture loss after bathing.
Scores are calculated from mineral analysis data based on the Mineral Spring Analysis Guidelines (Ministry of Environment, Japan). They are unrelated to facility atmosphere or service quality.
The temperature, pH and component values shown here are based on the hot spring analysis (source). Actual values in the bath may differ depending on heating, dilution, recycling and filtration. Please check current usage status at the facility.
Since the source water gushes out at a very high temperature of 77.5℃, cold water is added to adjust it to a comfortable 40-42℃. The chloride forms a salt film on your skin, keeping you warm long after bathing. It is recommended to gently towel dry without rinsing off the spring water.
This is a gentle, neutral sodium-chloride spring with a pH of 6.4. Containing 926.5mg of sodium ions and 1492mg of chloride ions per kilogram, it provides excellent heat-retaining effects. It is perfect for those suffering from poor circulation or peripheral circulatory failure, leaving you with a lingering warmth.
Please refrain from bathing if you have a fever, active tuberculosis, or severe heart, lung, or kidney conditions. Note that this water is not safe for drinking.
